Cloud Cult – Princess Bride
I’ve never been a fan of intertwining movie audio into tracks. They never seem to meld together well enough. Then I heard this song. I don’t know how they pulled it off, but it almost sounds like the Princess Bride audio was made specifically to perfectly harmonize with the music. Hot damn. Have I mentioned that these guys are fucking amazing?

I’ll be honest, I’m a marching aficionado (being in the band throughout high school will do that to you), and this is easily one of the coolest field shows I’ve ever seen.

Ratatat – Gettysburg
The only clue we’re given is the song title, as these guys hide their lyrics incredibly well, but they are there. Tragic though it is, Gettysburg left very few standing, so I’m convinced that’s why the guitar sings: “please remember me…”
Have I mentioned that this album is fucking incredible?
Takes him a while to get to the point, but it’s definitely worth it. Hilarious and brilliant.

El Ten Eleven →
I think I’ve found a new place for my post-rock affections of late. Ratatat better watch out; these guys have got the electronica-infused instrumental game down. And any review that specfically mentions how a band strives to not be like Mogwai has got my attention.
Nice trick with the name too: while it reads as “The Ten Eleven” in my head (had to learn something growing up in...

I’ve been using gmail as my main address since 2004 (including forwarding many other addresses into gmail) and have so far used 477 of my currently-allocated 5274 megabytes. That’s with over 10,000 messages. You kidding me?! Take away 80% of that space (since I’m only using 9% after three years) and throw it towards a free iDisk-style service; now that’s the Google Way.
While there is no conclusive evidence that cell phones cause any sort of...

It’s a play on “If I only had a brain” from the Wizard of Oz… planned to use the domain name for a professional site (get it, if I only had a name, ie: professionally… oh, nevermind, the joke sucks anyway), but screw that, this is much easier and far more entertaining.

Your World Today
Kanye’s mom died (“Hey Mama” is a lot more poignant now), our “little” home town isn’t so safe anymore, oil is spilling everywhere, and children’s toys have started turning into the date rape drug when swallowed. What ever happened to good ‘ol lead poisoning?
βravo βloglines
I’ve long maintained that Bloglines is the best of the web-based feed readers, more because of stubborn personal bias than actual hard facts. I tried Google Reader and a few more obscure ones; they all seemed more toy-ish than actually useful. And who the hell wants to have a feed reader that’s stuck on only one computer?! So Bloglines it’s been, even though it might have been a...

Another eve for EVE
Alright, I’ll admit it; I renewed my EVE online account the other day. After all, they are releasing a Mac client soon… and with Leopard’s Spaces I could be running trading routes in the background all day long…

"Take Your Medicine" - Cloud Cult →
My very musically-savvy jam-sesh buddy sent me this link about a week ago, and I haven’t really listened to anything since. Incredible band, the entire album is easily as good as this track, if not far better.
You can take it in stride
Or you can take it right between the eyes
Suck up, suck up
And take your medicine
It’s a good day, it’s a good day

Rotten Library →
I’ve been a rotten.com fan for years: yes it’s horrible and depraved, but isn’t that what the ‘Net is good for?
Anyway, I just recently discovered the Rotten Library, and am pretty sad it’s taken me this long. They’ve written about all sorts of pop- and sub-culture niches in the classic Rotten style, and they’re all definitely worthwhile reading. (This...
That last quote:
Not sure why I like it; it has that rare, odd feeling about it that makes me think it’s a black sheep of English grammar. Of course, I was a “whole language” kid, meaning grammar is about as opaque to me as mud, yet I tend to have a “feel” for sentences and the language as a whole. Hey, maybe that’s what they were going for…
It should not be used to specify the order of layer siblings, instead reorder...
